Mrs Greensmith plays hide the sausage at Cockliffe House

Our wedding story by Mr And Mrs Greensmith

Wedding venue: Cockliffe Country House

A wedding day is something a little girl always dreams of and when Ryan asked me to marry him I was over the moon with love and excitement. The day before our wedding myself, my husband to be Ryan, my parents Jamie and Samantha and my mother in law Debra all came to Cockliffe Country House to set up all our home made decorations of a crisps wall, shot drink table plan wall, dessert stands and our disco accessory ladders.

Ryan and myself had made our bridal party little gift boxes to say thank you for being a part of our big day and we placed them into the bedrooms along with chocolates and the little shortbread biscuits that we all then made the icing with our wedding name to go on them.

Tip- Write a list of everything you will need the day before and the day of your wedding that you need to bring, also tools you will need to use to set everything up.

Once this was all done we kissed and said our goodbyes as we went our separate ways to get our selves ready for the big day, for the next time we will see each other will be at the aisle! Later that night I returned to Cockliffe with my wedding dress freshly pressed and ready from the tailors to be hung up in our bedroom. Whilst Ryan wished to stay at home and look after our dog Chunks. My parents, one of my bridesmaids Chloe, maid of honour Beccy, her fiancé Cass and their baby Remie came to join me for drinks and food to calm my nerves and excitement!

For months I had been getting very nervous about the weather on our big day and had been checking three different wedding apps on the lead up to it. I saw on social media of an old wives tales to bury in the ground a raw Richmond sausage the night before your wedding day and on your wedding day this will bring you good weather. After days of raining on the lead up to our wedding I thought I might as well give this a go and see if it works! So off my mum and I go into the garden at night and bury this raw sausage as she is filming me on social media. We come back to the bar and all our friends and family are laughing and asking where we buried it! Lots of laughter, reminiscing of good memories and singing with Remie that evening, but it was time for bed as we all had a big day ahead of us!

Tip- Try and be as organised as you can be the night before and get everything out you need ready, so in the morning you do not feel rushed at all!

Our wedding day is finally here! The morning of our wedding and me and Ryan were texting each other to see if we were both up and ready for the day ahead of us! Ryan was having a very chilled morning with walking our dog and the lads coming to our house for breakfast and to get ready. Me and mum were the only ones awake at the venue at the time and we both sat in the courtyard having a nice hot drink and relaxing before everyone else woke up! 8am and it all starts to happen- by this point we were all up in our silky PJs, Cass and Remie waved us goodbye as we then heading into breakfast, my matron of honour Bridie and my bridesmaid Laura had arrived by then too. We were all relaxing drinking Prosecco, teas, coffees (with lots of sugars in!), fresh fruit and eating sausage and bacon cobs to line our stomachs and ease the nerves. - but actually I felt very relaxed and calm (which I didn’t think I would be! I thought I would be so nervous!) After breakfast our hair and makeup stylists arrived and we headed off to start getting ready.

Tip- Make sure you eat before your wedding and especially if you are going to drink in the morning.

My dad was downstairs helping with the prep work and slowly getting ready to meet my husband to be and the groomsmen when they arrived.

Tip- I had already organised before the timings for everyone’s hair and makeup so we all knew what time we needed to be where and when we could just relax.

10:00 rolls around and our photographer Austen arrives, along with our decorating company Cara and Daniel who will be setting up the venue. Austen jumps straight into snapping the get ready photos of us all and having us all laughing to get the relaxed photos that we all wanted! 11:15 and I can see my husband to be Ryan, my parents in law Mark and Debra with the groomsmen Len, Terry and Jamie arriving downstairs and they look amazing and smart in their black suits. Austen goes to find them all to start snapping their getting ready photos, as this is something we don’t get to see or be part of! Whilst Ryan and his crew are all downstairs Myself, my mum and my bridal girls are all upstairs finishing getting ready and there is just bottle after bottle of Prosecco coming up to us with vodka Redbulls to drink! Our makeup and hairstylists Kelly, Gemma, Sarah and Victoria gave us our finally touch ups and wished me luck before they waved us goodbye. I remember starting to slowly get my dress on with my mum and Beccy and hearing Austen walking up the stairs.. I shouted “do not come in the bedroom I am getting changed”.. to which Austen walks in like “what did you say” as I am stood half in and half out of my dress and my suck in fat pants on, Austen ran out and we all started laughing! Once I was in my dress we could hear the guests starting to arrive from upstairs. Ryan was greeting our guests in the courtyard downstairs with his family and groomsmen. 12:30 and Austen and my my go and get my dad for the 1st reveal. I am such a daddies girl and this was a really big thing for us both at that moment as he had been poorly on the lead up to our wedding and his wish was to be well enough to walk me down the aisle. He opened his eyes to see his little girl all dressed up with my mum and my bridal girls we was all crying! Now time for our register meeting with the ladies from the council, Ryan went first along with our mums as they were going to be our witnesses. Me and the girls are upstairs singing along to P!NK to relax us all. When it was my time for my meeting I was stupidly excited and was talking far too fast that they told me off and asked me to calm down! 1:15 This was it, go time! The walk me and dad are about to do will be my last walk as a fiancé and I will be meeting my husband to be at the end of the aisle. Before we all walked down the aisle I had done a little voice recording of myself to Ryan in secret (I’d not told a sole about this, only our singer Rebecca and the venue). It was a little reminder to Ryan to relax, take a deep breath and I will be there soon! That was it, I could then hear Rebecca singing our song, that is when I got nervous! Seeing my bridal girls slowly 1 by 1 walking into The Elliott suite. As me and dad walked down the aisle, all I could do was look at Ryan as he was looking at me, it felt like there was no one else there in the room, until… I started to feel something pulling on my dress behind me, I looked round as the lanterns that we had picked for the aisle decorations were stuck on my dress and I was pulling them along with me down the aisle. We all just started to laugh, as only I could do this!

Tip- Remember the size of your dress when picking what decorations you want.

During the ceremony neither me and Ryan really remember much as we are both so nervous by this point, excited, shaking and our hands a little sweaty! We are both just quietly talking to each other whilst the readings and ceremony is taking place. Throughout always holding each others hands and keeping eye contact so that we know we’ve got each other. It comes to the part of the ceremony where they ask you to repeat after them.. Ryan goes first and smashes it! Repeats it word for word and speaks loudly and clearly. Oh god now my turn… Only me can mess up the words that the lady had only just told me to repeat a moment ago! We had to start the sentence again for me to say it correctly.

Tip- Take your time and breathe before repeating your vows, as you will get asked to do them again until they are correct.

We said our I dos and Rebecca sang us all out of the ceremony room. Ryan and I stood outside in the courtyard to greet and thank all of our family and friends for coming as they were then lead outside to the front of the venue for our confetti and bubbles. Meanwhile me and Ryan snuck off for our canapés and drinks, both pinching ourselves, like has this just actually happened! We are now married! As we were walking through our confetti and bubbles tunnel the sun was out and it was gorgeous, YES my bury the sausage plan worked!! This then becomes a game/theme from my maid of honour stating that if any guest could find the sausage she would buy them any drink they wanted! Or every photo we took shouting find the sausage!

Tip- Make sure you have your phot lists with your bridal team ready! This really helped us be organised and allowed us to spend so much time with our friends and family!

Also make sure you both take a step back on the day and just take a good look to allow the experience to settle in, it does go by fast. The rest of the day and evening was so magical for us both after years of planning and going through every emotion together, we could now party the night away.
